Nyquist, who had been regarded as a possible Triple Crown contender before his defeat to Exaggerator at Pimlico on Saturday, was suffering from a high white blood cell count, his team said. Trainer Doug O'Neill said Nyquist was running a fever of "102 degrees and change" on Monday.
