WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is expected to disclose as early as Friday the number of civilians killed in U.S. military and CIA drone strikes in Pakistan, Yemen and Africa since he took office and will issue an executive order that makes protecting civilians a more integral part of planning U.S. military operations, according to activists and other individuals familiar with the report.
Tesla said a driver was killed while using its "autopilot" self-driving mechanism on its Model S electric car, leading to a US federal safety investigation. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that it has opened a "preliminary evaluation" into the performance of Autopilot after the electric car company notified the agency of a fatal crash in Florida in May. In a statement, Tesla said the fatality was "a tragic loss" and was the first such incident with its Autopilot system activated.
Reigning Olympic champion Nathan Adrian stormed home to win the 100m freestyle at the US Olympic swimming trials to set up a repeat bid at the Rio Games. Adrian clocked 47.72sec, improving on the 47.91 he produced in the semi-finals. Caeleb Dressel, a double freestyle sprint gold medalist at the NCAA collegiate championships, seized second in 48.23, booking an individual berth in Rio as he edged another collegiate standout, Ryan Held, who settled for third in 48.26.
