The package, which still requires parliamentary approval, covers Tornado reconnaissance jets, a naval frigate and up to 1,200 troops following a request from France in the wake of deadly jihadist attacks in Paris last month. "The German contribution serves the fight against terrorism under the auspices of the alliance against IS and is aimed at supporting in particular France, Iraq and the international alliance in its fight against IS," according to a copy of the mandate obtained by AFP.

US Marine Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton (C) enters a court building to face the verdict of a murder case at the regional trial court in Olongapo City on December 1, 2015A Philippine court on Tuesday convicted a US Marine for killing a Filipina transgender woman in a red light district, in a case that reignited long-simmering anti-American sentiment in the Philippines. Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton was convicted of homicide for the killing of Jennifer Laude in a motel in October, 2014, after they met in a bar following joint US military exercises near the city of Olongapo. Judge Roline Jinez Jabalde sentenced Pemberton to six to 12 years in jail -- after the charge was lowered from murder which carries a heavier penalty -- citing mitigating circumstances including Laude not revealing her gender identity.

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivers a speech for the opening day of the World Climate Change Conference 2015 (COP21) at Le Bourget, near ParisChinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Zimbabwe on Tuesday, the first visit by a Chinese leader since 1996, amid expectations this would lead to the signing of infrastructure funding and investment agreements. Xi is on a two-day state visit to Zimbabwe and will travel to South Africa on Wednesday, where he will meet President Jacob Zuma and later co-chair the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation summit in Johannesburg. "It's all systems go and the agreements to be signed will be in the areas of communication, civil aviation, transport, infrastructure, to mention just a few," Joey Bimha, the secretary of Foreign Affairs was quoted as saying.
