FIFA President Blatter reacts after he was re-elected at the 65th FIFA Congress in ZurichAs Sepp Blatter was re-elected FIFA president on Friday he made almost exactly the same speech he did in 2011 about the need to pull together and root out corruption. Not only has FIFA failed to change its scandal-plagued image, it faces an even bigger credibility crisis after United States prosecutors unveiled the gory details of alleged corruption in soccer, some involving top FIFA officials. To complicate matters FIFA is also showing the first signs of a dangerous split in its ranks.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter gestures after being re-elected following a vote to decide on the FIFA presidency in Zurich on May 29, 2015Sepp Blatter won a fifth term as FIFA president on Friday in a dramatic end to an angry campaign dominated by a corruption storm that engulfed the leadership of world football. Blatter, who had defied calls to resign, raised his arms in triumph and promised the congress to be the "commander" who "guides this boat FIFA" out of the corruption turmoil it has sunk into. The 79-year-old Blatter also indicated he would not stand again saying he would hand over a "strong" FIFA to "my successor" in four years.
