Takata, under fire from safety regulators over defective airbags linked to at least five fatalities, said it increased production of airbag replacement kitsEmbattled Japanese auto supplier Takata said Monday it will double its production of replacement airbags in the next six months in response to a massive global safety recall. Takata, under fire from safety regulators over defective airbags linked to at least five fatalities, said it increased production of airbag replacement kits from 350,000 per month in December to 450,000 per month currently. "Takata has dramatically increased the production of airbag replacement kits in support of automotive recalls and safety campaigns," the company said. "Takata also is working with other suppliers to further increase the availability of replacement kits for its automotive customers." About 20 million vehicles produced by some of the world's biggest automakers are being recalled due to the risk their Takata-made airbags could deploy with excessive explosive power, spraying potentially fatal shrapnel into the vehicle.

In this Oct. 10, 2011 file photo, Sam Mullet Sr. stands in the front yard of his home in Bergholz, Ohio. Sixteen members of a breakaway Amish community from eastern Ohio are scheduled to be resentenced in Cleveland after a federal appellate court overturned their hate crime convictions. The resentencing Monday, March, 2, 2015, is needed because the original sentences for the 16 didn’t distinguish between their hate crimes convictions and convictions on other charges related to the forced cutting of beards and hair of seven people. All were members of other Ohio Amish communities. Eight of the 16 already have served their sentences and can’t be returned to prison. (AP Photo/Amy Sancetta, File)CLEVELAND (AP) — A judge reduced the prison sentences Monday for the leader of a breakaway Amish group and seven followers after their hate-crime convictions were thrown out in their hair- and beard-chopping attacks against fellow members of the faith.
