A good old-fashioned sing-a-long

Man, we never get invited to the good parties!

Thanks to our morning email update from City & State First Read, we just found out that Pol Position missed out on a Congressman Joseph Crowley annual holiday party. But this wasn't just any old party, it was a karaoke party!

That's right, some of our favorite elected officials got busy on the mic, singing, having a good time, and raising some holiday cheer, all with members of the Crowley family providing the music.

What makes this news, exactly? What, you need more than just politicians belting out their favorite hits from the 80s to pique your interest? Fine then.

It seems that Crowley could have picked a better night to hold his party, because that exact same night the Queens Civic Congress was holding their annual legislative reception, where Queens and citywide politicians mingle with the group, which is an umbrella organization of over 100 smaller Queens civic associations. Apparently some elected officials chose to go to just Crowley's party and skip the reception, which irked members of QCC.

You may be wondering just how QCC found out that some elected officials skipped its soiree and instead went to Crowley's bash at the Hall of Science? Oh goslings, how else do people find out about these things in the grand old year of 2011? Facebook, of course!

Yes, photos of the event were posted to Facebook, and some politicians in the photos were notably absent from QCC's reception, raising more than a few eyebrows over at the organization.

So is that newsy enough for you? Can we just get back to what actually interested Pol Position about the event?

It turns out that rival Democratic county leaders Vito Lopez and Crowley himself actually got up on stage and sang a duet together! We would seriously pay for video of that transpiring, but not a lot, most of Pol Position's deservedly small budget goes toward Night Train Express Wine Coolers and legal fees, but we would be eternally grateful to you, if that helps.

Now, if someone could just confirm that Crowley and Lopez sang "A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock 'N' Roll" (we'll let you decide which is which), we could happily retire Pol Position forever, because nothing would top that.
