Anthony J. Papavero Sr. , 70 founder and co-owner of Branchburg Funeral Home in Branchburg NJ, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Anthony resided in Raritan, NJ for thirty years before moving to Branchburg, NJ twenty years ago.

Mr. Papavero was a licensed funeral director for 51 years and was a member of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. Anthony, along with his sons, Anthony, Jr. and Jason, co-founded Branchburg Funeral Home, twenty years ago. Prior to owning Branchburg Funeral Home, Anthony was the co-owner and operator of Bongiovi Funeral Home in Raritan for thirty years.

Anthony was a member and past president of the Raritan Lions Club and a member of the Somerville Elks Lodge 1068. He was a former member of Raritan Chamber of Commerce and the Raritan Post War Club.

He loved traveling with his wife; especially to Italy. He enjoyed flying homing pigeons, was an avid deer hunter, loved to go crabbing and spending time at the Jersey Shore. Anthony looked forward to making tomato sauce every year with his friends.

Anthony was avid Giants fan and lifelong season ticket holder, who took great pleasure in tailgating with family and friends before their home games. He also had the privilege of attending 10 Super Bowls. He especially enjoyed the four that his Giants won.

Anthony was kind, caring, and generous person, always ready to help those in need and never looked for anything in return. He was a mentor to many and a friend to all. But first and foremost for Anthony was his family; his wife, sons, and grandchildren meant the world to him. If there was one thing that could put a sparkle in his eyes, it was the sight of his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Bartolomeo V. and Lucille DePiano Papavero; his beloved twin brother, Joseph M.; and dear brothers-in-Law, Joseph Lassandro and Anthony Imperato.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 15 years, Carmen (Tita) Alvarez Scovino Papavero; his loving sons, Anthony J. Papavero, Jr. (AJ) of Raritan and Jason C. Papavero and Wife, Sandy of Neshanic Station; his loving step-sons, Andres Gonzalez and Juan Pablo Gonzalez, both of Branchburg; his seven cherished grandchildren, Karli, Alexis, Sydney, Serena, Elli, Nicholas and Luke; his loving sisters, Minna Imperato of Maspeth NY and Autilla(DeDe) Lassandro of Maspeth NY his dear sister-in-law, MaryAnn Papavero of Maspeth NY; his dear mother-in-law, Maria Isela Scovino of Colombia; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of friends.

Funeral Services will begin with a prayer at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South Branchburg, NJ 08876 (908) 526-7638 followed by an 11 AM Funeral Liturgy at St. Bernard R.C. Church, 500 Route 22 East, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Entombment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery & Mausoleum Route 28, Bridgewater. Viewing hours are Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
