Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez is reveling in her victory, one that may be short-lived.
An admitted socialist, her comments about an alleged massacre of Palestinians in Israel and her desire to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) already has many Democrats distancing themselves from her.
Since the election of Barack Obama the party has suffered over 1,100 losses nationwide and a large majority of state legislatures, primarily because it has moved too far to the political Left.
A poll taken just last week revealed that most Americans do not want to see ICE abolished. Her socialist policies will bankrupt the nation, grow bigger, more intrusive government, and create generations of people dependent upon social programs.
Everything from free tuition to free Metrocards, free housing and free frozen yogurt, only creates a desire from those recipients to want more. Government dependence is not the path to success. Free enterprise and personal responsibility is.
I will remind the voters in her district, whether they supported her for cultural reasons, a change, or dissatisfaction with Joseph Crowley, that all that glitters is not gold, and beware of strangers bearing gifts.
The dangers in her policies can best be perceived by two leaders who spoke wisely. They are Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. Their words, respectively, were "the only problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money" and "government isn't the solution to the problem, government is the problem."
