The Woodhaven Business Improvement District and the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation go on record that the building located at 78-19 Jamaica Avenue next to the Volunteer Ambulance Corps and our Woodhaven Senior Citizen Center be condemned and demolished.

This building owner has accumulated 42 violations over the years, which they have never cleared. They have proved that they are not interested in our safety or the well being of our community. The collapse of this building could have been deadly.

Our WBID President Mathew Xenakis and GWDC President Stephen Esposito and our organizations know that we will be joined by our elected officials and other organizations in the pursuit of this demolition.

The last day to register to vote is Friday, October 11. Call our office at (718) 805-0202 and pick up a registration form today.

The month of October is always an unpredictable month weather wise. It can be warm, sunny, and springlike or it can be cool with falling leaves of many colors which shimmer with shades of autumn. Also, as we well know, it can be a month of hurricanes which can range from just heavy rain to the sad dangerous Sandy which hit on October 29 of last year.

This is the reason every year for our Wonderful Woodhaven Street Festival we ask you to have good thoughts for this happy enjoyable day. This year the festival is Sunday, October 20.

The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation staff and I are working very hard on this. This festival is sponsored and run solely by the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation, with no promoter involved; we do it all the Woodhaven way.

So, come out and shop locally at our stores during our Fair. Don’t forget to come out on Sunday, October 20, from noon to 6 p.m. on Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue from 80th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard for our Wonderful Woodhaven Street Festival 2013. Now in our 34th Year.

Bring the family for a safe, fun-filled family day! We will have rides and games, antique cars, and a variety of vendors with unique products and our great Woodhaven stores and bargains. The entertainment for the festival will be the great country-western music of the Mary Lamont Band, with line-dancing instruction and dancing in the streets rock. Local bands Plastic Soul, Solid State Band, and Heartbreak Station will also perform.

This year again our special feature will be The Malaysian Lion Dancers. Also appearing, our veteran Shorinjiryu Kenryukan karate with Myron M. Lubitsch, who have appeared in our Street Fairs for over 25 years.

May God bless our leaders, may God bless our armed forces and disabled veterans, and may God bless our America.
