Dear Editor,

At Northern Boulevard and the Clearview Expressway there are five auto dealerships, a body shop, and transmission business. Nowhere else in northeast Queens do you have such a saturation of auto-related businesses.

The fumes from all of the automobiles are noxious and irritating. The danger of so many vehicles in motion threatens pedestrians. Parking on 45th Road is near impossible for residents.

The commercial creep has penetrated 45th Road. Where there used to be houses, you now have businesses.

I blame the city for this problem, especially the Department of Buildings. One dealer is supposed to park 20 vehicles on their back lot, but 75 or more vehicles are parked there constantly.

Another built a garage on the northwest corner of Oceania Street and 45th Road in a residential zone.

Yet another is running to the Board of Standards and Appeals to operate a dealership on the block, but even before the change in use has been granted, they are operating the business.

Numerous complaints have been filed with 311, but very little if anything seems to happen to them in terms of consequences for these violations. They don’t care about the neighborhood they operate in or the residents.
