Dear Editor:

"Queens Storms Albany" (Queens Ledger – 5/18), but when it comes to public transportation needs the borough is left empty-handed with no real firm financial commitments.

Elected officials failed to provide any specific information on how they will come up with funding to implement any of the following transportation projects advocated by those lobbying for them.

All 14 Queens members of the City Council support the Commuter Rail Fare Equalization Proposal, which would allow city residents to pay a $2.75 fare on the Long Island Rail Road or Metro North Rail Road and receive a free transfer to the subway.

How will New York City provide the MTA with $200 million to cover the cost?

Other proposed projects include the LaGuardia Airport Train, Woodhaven Boulevard Select Bus Service, light rail service between Jamaica and Long Island City, restoration of service on the old Rockaway LIRR branch, and the Brooklyn-Queens waterfront street car.

And there is still the need to bring many of the 78 Queens subway and 21 LIRR stations back up to a state of good repair.

Where do Queens state senators and Assembly members think Albany will find the cash for all these projects?

I'm certainly agree Larry: We should demand the elected officials to fully funded the MTA Capital Plan without taking out much debt by focusing on modernizing our own existing public transportation infrastructure that we already have.
