The Place To Beach Cantina (PTB) hosted the first PTB Beach Volleyball Tournament in Coney Island this past weekend. The one-day beach volleyball tournament on August 10 featured both a men’s and women’s draw with a 1st place cash prize of $1,000 and a 2nd place cash prize of $600 for each team.

Danial Levent and Mike Salak won first place in the men’s division, while Jon Rose and Aresio Souza took second. In women’s division, Hilary Pavels and Dana Fiume took first and Svetlana Simic and Agnieszka Pregowska came in second.

“It was a blast to play in such a fun setting at Coney Island Beach with so much history and tradition,” said Ssalak, a Brooklyn native and coach of the men’s volleyball team at Brooklyn College. “I grew up playing on this beach, and it is awesome to be part of such an exciting event.”

Open to the public, the event attracted some of the best beach volleyball players from the East Coast to the Coney Island beach. Players include professional athletes from the NBA, WNBA, and former Olympians. Some of the top names included Salak, Elvis Rodriguez, Alejandro Flores, Simic, Stephanie Volklers, Pavels, and Fiume.

A portion of the tournament proceeds were donated to the nonprofit organization AllStarr Volleyball, the fastest growing USA Volleyball Juniors club in New York City with teams of girls and boys ranging from ages 13 to 18.
