To close out the summer sports season, CityParks Tennis hosted its annual Chase Aces youth tournament for 150 young players in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park last week.

“The idea is to give them a feel for what it feels like to be in a tournament,” said Raymond Chin, director of tennis for the City Parks Foundation. “They’re playing six-game pro sets. It’s still a learning process for these kids. It’s not easy to play in a tournament.”

The winners of the tournament are selected from three age groups divided by gender. In the girls 12, 14 and 16 and under divisions, the winners were Angelica Schell, Jade Killekelly, and Caitlin Balagula, respectively. In the boys divisions, Ari Cotoulas, Graham Lo and Banjamin Adome won their age groups.

CityParks Tennis is a division of the City Parks Foundation, which was established in 1989, and each year provides thousands of young tennis players with free lessons.

The Chase Aces intermediate-level program continues throughout the year, providing promising youth tennis players free indoor instructions in the off-season, when court time becomes prohibitively expensive.
