Nowadays, we shop, pay bills, schedule appointments and order food online, so it makes sense to also use technology in tasks like getting your laundry done.

Dirty Laundry, a new app created by Forest Hills residents Sergei Benyaminov and Roman Kaykov aims to aid customers by simplifying the laundry process. Their Queens, startup is currently serving areas such as Forest Hills, Rego Park, Long Island City, Astoria, Maspeth, Middle Village, and Glendale.

Instead of calling to place an order, everything can be done within the app, which is available for the iPhone and Android devices. Ordering can also be done on DirtyLaundry's website, dirtylaundryapp.com.

Customers can choose a time and location for their laundry to be picked up by one of the company’s agents. An order can be placed three hours in advance. The laundry will then be sent to the company's facility in the Bronx overnight where it will be either washed and folded or washed and pressed for dry cleaning. In 24 hours, the laundry is returned to the customer or another drop-off time could be rescheduled on the app. Each drop-off includes a little treat such as a cookie or chocolate.

There are push notifications to notify customers that their laundry is ready or that their billing, charged at $1.50 per pound, has been calculated.

The app also stores credit card information to make checkout quick and easy. Customer feedback is imperative for the company as they strive to make the process as seamless as possible for users. For instance, after listening to customer feedback in the first couple of months in operation, the app now includes a reoccurring service option as well as a “refer a friend” option. “We spent a lot of time understanding how customers want their laundry to be done,” Benyaminov said. "We have figured out how to properly fold clothes as well as separate whites from colors, kids clothes from adults clothes, males clothes from females clothes and even put all the sock pairs together; so in the end, it’s like you bought a new set of clothes when we return hem."

The company has seen an impressive 90 percent rate in return customers. Currently, Dirty Laundry works on about 15 orders daily. The customer base ranges in age from 22 to 45 with most orders coming from young, female professionals. However, the app targets anyone who may be too busy or just don’t like to do laundry. “Remember, weekends are for fun, not laundry,” Benyaminov said.
