Ditch the status quo

Dear Editor:

This past week, as reported in the New York Times, the New York State Inspector General’s office released a scathing report on the bidding process for the Aqueduct race track concession that led to the failed AEG bid in 2009.

In the report, the investigator documents a litany of malfeasance on the part of our legislators including the State Senate and State Assembly leadership. The list of negative findings included manipulation of the bidding process, favoritism and leaking of information to specific bidders.

The Inspector General, Joseph Fisch, put it this way; “Shamefully, the public’s best interest was a matter of militant indifference to them”. In short, it is a snapshot of the Albany culture which has been left standing too long.

This Tuesday, the citizens of this district have a choice to make.

Do they keep sending the same elected officials up to Albany to reward this betrayal of public trust or do they stop for a moment and decide to replace the existing structure with individuals who have taken a stand against the status quo?

Sincerely,

Dr. Harold Paez

Candidate, NY State Assembly District 23
