With so many home improvement products getting stimulus approved just about everyone can receive the government’s 30 percent credit of up to $1500. The first products were windows. All the manufacturers scrambled to get approved so consumers would buy their windows instead of another companies non-approved windows. Being able to get a customer 30 percent back from the government was a huge incentive.

Next came doors. It was like a dam had broken. First entry doors, then patio doors, and then garage doors. Even single-glass storm doors got approved, allowing a customer to get a brand new custom-made top-quality storm door fully installed for a mere $272. Prices like that haven’t been seen since the 1970’s.

The two products that we all expected to be approved were special siding insulation and attic insulation. Those items made sense and certainly help the environment by saving energy. They were approved right away.

The newest product to be approved came as a shock to most of us in the industry. Roofing! Special color roofing shingles called Cool Colors have now been approved. That’s right, you can have a new roof put on your home for $5,000 yet only pay $3,500 for the job. Not only do you save money on the project, but you also save money on your energy costs because the shingles are made in a special way with reflective granules.

This stimulus package is a windfall for anyone that needed to make some home repairs. It will continue through December 31, 2010, so take your time shopping and make sure you pick the right products for you and your home.
