In his latest interview on “60 Minutes,” President Barack Obama expressed disdain for the wealthy fat-cats on Wall Street. If he is truly concerned about irresponsible unaccountable behavior and wants to redistribute the wealth, he should look to Congress.
The Center for Responsive Politics has reported that 237 members of congress are millionaires; that’s 44% of the body compared to only 1% of Americans overall.
The richest is Representative Darrell Issa (R-California) who is worth $251 million, followed by Representative Jane Harman (D-California) at $244.7 million; Senator Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin) at $214.5 million; Senator Mark Warner (D-Virginia) at $209.7 million; and Senator John Kerry (D-Massachusetts) at $208.8 million.
By voting all incumbents out of office, regardless of party affiliation, we can help the president achieve his goals of economic and redistributive “change” and realize Michelle Obama’s “hope” that, “in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped educational system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more.”
It is time to drain the swamp. Let’s make sure the next election generates “change” the president and congress can believe in.
