Rice High School, after surviving a frantic assault by Christ the King to win the CHSAA intersectional championship, went up to Glen Falls and took care of business, winning the ‘AA’ State Championship.
First up for the Raiders was PSAL Champ Lincoln High, and Lincoln’s All-American Lance Stephenson were no match for Rice, as the Raiders rolled by 27 points.
In the title game, Rice jumped out to a 21-5 lead before Newburgh rallied to take control of the game. However, Durand Scott hit a three to send the game into overtime, and Rice held on for a 70-68 victory. Scott, who is heading to Miami next season, led all scorers with 23 points and was named tournament MVP.
