The Greenpoint branch of the Post Office on Meserole Avenue sustained damages to its electrical systems and Internet, which is currently keeping the facility closed. And, for now, there is no timeline set for it to reopen despite USPS’s efforts to restore the facility.
The USPS typically provides full-service vans for branches that are temporarily inoperable, but Brooklyn only has one van available throughout the entire borough. Because of extensive damages to the Coney Island branch from Hurricane Sandy, the mobile van is currently being used there.
However, Assemblyman Joe Lentol announced that a full-service trailer was available in Coney Island as of Friday, Nov. 30, to help those in the area with postal services.
The temporary solution will allow the mobile van to relocate to the temporarily closed Greenpoint branch, according to Lentol.
“I have received countless calls from constituents concerned with the branch closing,” Lentol said in a statement.
Besides the mobile van now offering service at the USPS Greenpoint Branch on 66 Meserole Ave., there are also two alternative Greenpoint locations offering USPS service—one at Murawski Pharmacy, located at 94 Nassau St. that offers retail services including selling money orders, shipping packages and purchasing stamps and at L & P Copy Plus, located at 951 Manhattan Ave., where items can be weighed.
