Forest Hills police arrested a man for allegedly firing multiple shots with an unregistered weapon at his neighbor two weeks ago following an ongoing dispute between the two.

According to 112th Precinct Captain Thomas Conforti , the attack came in response to several weeks of noise complaints regarding loud music and banging sounds in a neighboring residence in an apartment complex on Fleet and Alderton Streets.

“The guy upstairs had enough of it, decided to go downstairs, kick in the door and then he produced an illegal firearm,” Conforti explained. “He then fired a couple shots at the guy inside his apartment.”

Responding officers quickly detained the suspect, confiscated the loaded weapon and also found drugs inside his apartment.

“Once we were inside the apartment we discovered a little bit of drug paraphernalia,” he said. “We obtained some search warrants and some substantial amounts of marijuana and steroids were recovered out of that apartment.”

An elderly woman and her husband addressed the issue at the 112th Precinct Community Council meeting last week, after hearing shots two weeks ago.

“There were about seven or eight police cars,” she said.

While Conforti assured the community members at the meeting there was nothing to be concerned about, and that the man was taken in “without incident,” he reminded everyone that bad things can happen anywhere.

“Thank God no one was hit,” Conforti said. “This is the reality. Here we are in a nice neighborhood and you never know when things are going to happen.”
