Dear Editor,

Four homeless men were killed on sidewalks of Chinatown by a mentally ill man named Rodriguez Santos, who with his criminal record of violence should never have been on the street.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and various city agencies are not doing enough to address the homeless on the street and in shelters. The city's homeless population is at the highest point since the Great Depression.

In addition, we have the mentally ill people who are not being treated and living on the street.

The homeless and the mentally ill are in pain and need help, but New York is slowly becoming a city without pity.

Sincerely Yours,

Frederick R. Bedell, Jr.
