Rossi also became the eighth Bear to accomplish the 100-hit feat with a single in the first inning and is second to do it this year, joining junior Chris Cutrone (Levittown,/Island Trees HS).
St. Joseph’s (29-11) ends their historic 2014 season with a pair of losses after earning the school’s first postseason win in school history.
Senior Joe Mendez (Staten Island/Monsignor Farrell) was named to the D3Baseball.com 2014 All-New York Region First Team, while juniors McKenna and Cutrone were second team selections. Senior Mike Cundari (Staten Island/St. Peter’s) was a third team honoree.
Mendez, a first team selection a year ago, had a monster season for the Bears, setting school records in home runs (11), RBI (50) and slugging percentage (.734) in his final season on campus.
The USCAA Second Team All-American had a career day at Maritime on March 29, hitting four home runs on the day including three in game one. The outfielder became the Bears all-time hit leader versus Vaughn on April 18 and finishes his career with a school-record 20 home runs.
McKenna, Cutrone and Cundari earn postseason accolades from D3Baseball.com for the first time in their careers.
