Unfortunately, so did elected officials.
Candidates for mayor, comptroller, public advocate and the city council marched in the parade, surrounded by a horde of volunteers waving campaign flags and screaming campaign slogans.
It was a shameless display of self-promotion. Then again, voters can’t expect anything less, not on the eve of the Democratic primaries. People running for office must have preferred staying home with their families, yet they nonetheless dressed up and marched in the hot sun to further their chances at winning.
They certainly get points for effort and dedication. Still, for one day, just one day, it would have been nice to forget politics.
