After decided to go co-ed this year, the first year of the Monsignor McClancy Lady Crusader athletic program is off to a fast start with both the soccer and volleyball teams making the playoffs.

Currently, the Lady Crusader basketball team is in 1st place and 8-2-1 overall. The team quickly came together, and on average has limited its opponents to 28 points per game.

“The hard work that we have put in in practice is paying off on the court,” said point guard Taylor Aybar from Corpus Christi Parish. “Teamwork is also a big part of our success.”

“We have been through tough times with injuries, but we have come together as a team to work hard and it has shown on the court,” added center Ashley Martin from St. Mary Gate of Heaven Parish.

Shooting guard Gina Hopkins from the Immaculate Conception Parish and Forward Kayla Walker from St. Joan of Arc Parish both agree that the friendships the girls have with each other off the court have been key to their accomplishments on the court.

“It is a great honor to be part of history,” said power forward Kenia Garcia, who played at St. stan's Parish. “I’m sure all of us will never forget what we did representing our school.”

Besides basketball, volleyball and soccer, the Lady Crusader athletic program offers indoor/outdoor track and field, cross country, cheerleading, and softball. The school will be offering a swim team beginning in the 2013-2014 school year.
