MTA needs more Rockaway buses

Dear Editor:

The A train has been out of service since Superstorm Sandy devastated many areas of the Rockaways. So I’ve been taking the Q52 bus to get home.

Based on my observations from waiting for the Q52 at Woodhaven Boulevard near the J subway station, there are two to three Q53 buses to one Q52. I take the Q 52 around 2:35 p.m., and usually my wait is around 20 minutes, but a few times the wait was 40 to 60 minutes.

It’s understandable that the A train tracks need time for repairs, but it would be great if the MTA could schedule more Q52 buses so that Rockaway residents can get home earlier to continue the cleanup after Sandy.

Is it possible to reopen the Rockaway Beach Line of the old LIRR train tracks so Queens can have a crosstown subway or train? This would help reduce overcrowding on buses and trains and decrease travel times within Queens.

I hope someone can help us.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Chin
