Congresswoman Grace Meng joined the 112th Precinct last week to familiarize herself with her new district.

While the district, formerly represented by Gary Ackerman for 20 years, once spanned Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties, one thing Meng told her Forest Hills constituents was the importance of being more locally targeted.

“What’s nice about the district, compared to Gary’s old district, is that it’s completely in Queens now,” Meng said. Her district encompasses neighborhoods from Ridgewood to Oakland Gardens; as far north as Murray Hill and Flushing; and south to Glendale and Kew Gardens.

Born and raised in Flushing, where she was a former assemblywoman, Meng is looking forward to working with the new neighborhoods in the district.

“I am very privileged to represent this area,” she said. “A lot of the issues you face, we are concerned about as well.”
