Through the partnership, Sound Physicians, a Tacoma, Washington-based hospitalist program with more than 700 physicians at 70 hospitals across the country, will provide Wyckoff with a 45-bed unit of medical and surgical patients through the emergency department.
“The hospitalists will manage all facets of patients’ hospitalization from admission to discharge,” explained Wyckoff’s chief medical officer Gustavo Del Toro, M.D. “This includes consultations with primary care physicians and communication with patients’ families.”
Dr. Stephanie Salas, a board certified internist with over 10 years of hospitalist experience and a master’s degree in Health Science Education, was chosen as the chief hospitalist at the new program.
“These are all highly skilled physicians,” Del Toro said. “We are pleased to welcome them to Wyckoff, and we look forward to working with Sound Physicians to serve our patients and our community better.”
Robert Bessler, CEO of Sound Physicians, said he is enthusiastic about bringing his team to their first hospital in New York City.
“We are proud to partner with Wyckoff Heights Medical Center,” Bessler said. “They share our mission of providing the highest quality of care through engaged hospitalist physicians and evidence-based practices.”
Bessler founded the hospitalist group in 2001, and today it has spread throughout 22 states.
“I am excited about any initiative which improves the quality of patient care,” said Wyckoff’s president and CEO Ramon Rodriguez. “Our hospitalist program enables Wyckoff, as a community hospital, to make a doctor available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to the patient.”
