Ask and ye shall receive!

Last week, we ran this photo from our archives requesting from our readers some help in identifying the men with Governor George Pataki. We quickly got responses identifying the man on the left as former Queens Community Board 1 district manager George Delis, but nothing regarding the identity of the man in the middle.

Well, wonder no more, because we think Lucas Zannettis, who is originally from Cyprus but now calls Astoria home, may have figured it out. He called and suggested that the man with Delis and Pataki is Dimitris Avramopoulos, who was mayor of Athens from 1994 to 2002 following a long and storied career in government, holding several diplomatic posts.

We have to be honest, we weren't really expecting anyone to call us on this, but lo and behold outer newspaper apparently fell into the right hands.

We can't be sure about Mr. Zannettis' hypothesis – we wouldn't know Dimitris Avramopoulos if he was sitting next to us at our favorite watering hole, but mostly because it's not exactly the type of place where you want to be paying much attention to the person next to you - but we did find this recent photo of him, and we have to say there is quite a resemblance, so we have to assume that Mr. Zannettis knows of that which he speaks.

In case you're wondering, Avramopoulos currently serves as Minister of Defense in the coalition Government of Lucas Papademos, resigning from a seat he held in Parliament.

How do you like that? Pol Position is now bringing you news and information from the world of international politics!
