Frank Palmeri, owner of Tivoli Jewlers on Graham Avenue in Brooklyn, is a true gem among many rocks. Not only is he business savy, as Tivoli is recognized as a standout jeweler throughout Brooklyn, but he is also charitable and compassionate. Palmeri and Tivoli Jewelers are heading a unique food drive called “Drawing for Diamonds,” where all customers and the general public are invited to donate non-perishable food items within the store.

Palmeri, who is working to benefit the UNICO Queensboro Food Bank, will give a raffle ticket to all participants who make a donation, and will be auctioning off over $5,000 worth of prizes.

“In a challenging economy,” Palmeri said, “people are giving less. We want to generate excitement. We feel that it’s a good way to get involved, and I am so pleased with the response we have gotten so far.”

Some of these prizes include iPods, digital cameras, George Foreman grills, flat screen televisions, and of course, jewelery.

“This is a great way to gather food for the less fortunate, and a fun way to thank those who participate by giving out the raffle tickets,” Palmeri said. Winning numbers are drawn and posted at Tivoli every day, as participants file in to donate and match their tickets.

Born and raised in Glendale, Palmeri began learning jewelry design in Manhattan in 1988. Having been in the industry for twenty years as a diamond setter, he opened Tivoli in 1992 “as a result of his desire to create things,” Palmeri said.

Tivoli follows a unique formula for success, specializing in custom-made jewlery, restoration, and innovative pieces. Palmeri is the main designer and custom maker for many items in his store; he says he would design all the pieces, however, “time does not allow.”

Palmeri’s goals are to “help as many people as possible eat, and to raise awareness that the economic downturn has greatly affected people everywhere.”
