If you’ve been following us the past few months, you know we’ve been covering the Daily News Golden Gloves (and becoming even bigger boxing fans while we’re at it!) And while many boxers have caught our attention, one who was hard to ignore was Moustapha Dioubate. The 20 year old, Dioubate, from John’s Gym, was a sight to behold in his March 19th semi-final fight against Ryan Bailey at Elmcor, recovering from a first-round knockdown to administer two standing eight counts en-route to a 3-round victory.

Dioubate, who works as a baggage handler at Kennedy airport, called Bailey the toughest fighter he had to face. “I think that if I didn’t beat him, he probably would have gone on to be the 152-pound champion.”

However Dioubate, who called the knockdown a “wake-up call,” feel secure in his ability. “I train harder than anyone out there,” he said. “I’m confident I’m going to be the 152-pound champion.”
