Despite ranking second on the team in points with three goals and two assists, stats fail to capture the full impact of St. Francis playmaker, Semso Nikocevic. Compact like a spring waiting to explode, his 5’5” frame has bursting acceleration that propels him past players into open space and onto loose balls.

Rotating between central midfield and forward, Nikocevic offers unique qualities at both positions. At midfield he’s excellent at maintaining possession and dictating the flow of the game as his play encompasses both poise and passion. He displayed this last Sunday afternoon as he overcame the messy conditions to spread the point of attack and pick out open players. At forward he’s a constant threat with relentless pressure on the opponent’s defense and confidence to shoot from anywhere. Against Roger Morris he nearly capitalized on one such opportunity, launching a 35 yard half volley just over the crossbar.

Nikocevic has been recognized for his play before, earning a place in consecutive All Northeast Conference 1st teams. Should his quality of play continue for the rest of this season he will likely garner a third spot on the All Conference Team.

St. Francis, who went on to defeat Robert Morris 1-0, is now 4-1 in their conference and only one point out of first place. With five conference games left to play they are very much within striking distance of the NEC title and a shot at the playoffs. If they succeed at qualifying for the tournament, Nikocevic will be the one to watch with the ball at his feet.
