Pratt Institute Athletics announced the re-addition of men’s and women’s soccer to its intercollegiate athletic offerings beginning with the 2016-17 school year.

The revived men’s and women’s soccer will bring Pratt’s athletic program offerings to 14, as the institution already sponsors men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and men’s and women’s volleyball.

This will be the first time Pratt has offered men’s and women’s soccer since the early 2000s. A national search is being conducted for the new full-time men’s and women’s soccer head coach.

“We are thrilled to add soccer to our intercollegiate offerings, now giving us 14 sports in our department,” said athletic director Walter Rickard. “Soccer is a sport that has been offered at Pratt for decades in the past and is a sport we’ve been trying to bring back for some time and one that we feel can be successful here.”

Pratt men’s and women’s soccer will start as an independent program, and will join the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference beginning with the 2017-18 season.

The men’s season opener is scheduled for September 17, when the Cannoneers travel to Hyde Park to take on the Culinary Institute of America Steels.

The women’s season opener is scheduled for September 25, when the Cannoneers match-up with the Lions of The King’s College.
