Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and Community Board 6 chair Joseph Hennessy were both honored last week at the Queens Community House’s (QCH) Spring Event in Forest Hills.
“Melinda’s been a tireless advocate for residents of this community,” said Anita Phillips Straus, vice president of the QCH Board of Directors. “Now, her great leadership will benefit the whole borough.”
After Katz was recognized, she honored Hennessy, who also serves as QCH director emeritus, with a proclamation declaring April 1 “Joseph Hennessy Day” and called the honoree “a gift to Queens.”
“Joe has served this community for more than 37 years,” Katz announced. “In all he does, he demonstrates the qualities of humility, tenacity, kindness, courage, compassion and collaboration.”
Former QCH board member Blanca Izaguirre then presented Hennessey with the 2014 Queens Community Builder Award, established by the QCH Board of Directors in 2013 to recognize an individual who has made a dedicated effort to unite the neighborhood.
“Like a young tree, the Community House planted its roots in Forest Hills but its branches now reach throughout Queens,” Hennessy said after the presentation.
