“We like to call this a community car show,” said Michael Bilski, media director for East Coast Car Association. “We try to emphasize community.”
East Coast Car Association is a nonprofit organization that since 1999 has been raising funds for St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children in Bayside. They have given over $100,000 to the hospital.
Every Tuesday night, the group hosts a car show at Resorts Worlds New York where they display roughly 100 cars and 50 motorcycles. The cost to show off a car at the “Tuesday Night Cruise” is a $3 donation.
“We wanted more community involvement,” said Bilski. “Hopefully next year we have more vendors and the community comes out.”
The winner of Best in Show this past weekend was Andy Gleiss, who has been showing his cars with the organization for 14 years ago.
His car featured blue flames on the side and an engine popping out of the hood. “We flame to please,” Gleiss joked.
“Every year it’s between $5,000 and $8,000 we donate,” said Gleiss. “And that’s just from rinky-dink car shows.”
