At least that's what we were led to believe when we noticed our RSS feed from bluecollarcorner.com suddenly went silent.
It just so happens that its disappearance coincides with the news that we recently received that the man behind the blog, Andrew Sullivan, has decided to run for the congressional seat that was recently vacated by disgraced pol Anthony Weiner.
We've actually met and talked with Sullivan a number of times, and we have to say that in person he is an affable and likable man who can discuss his views with intelligence and an even temperament. His blog, on the other hand, well...
If you've never read bluecollarcorner.com, it's full of Tea Party-style rhetoric and it made a name for itself - and Sullivan, for that matter, who is often a featured "talking head" on a number of well-established television news programs - by targeting the so-called Ground Zero Mosque. Sullivan even spearheaded the 911 Hard Hat Pledge, which urged city construction workers to vow never to work on building the mosque.
Even if you didn't always - or ever - agree with Sullivan and his views, he was a fervent blogger and was always on the scene, making him a good source of information. And let's face it, in this day and age of information overload, you've got to be loud if you want to be heard. Heck, even we featured his blog at the top of our Blog Roll on the Queens Ledger home page. Or we did, that is.
Pol Position even sat down with a representative for Sullivan almost a year ago, who was testing the waters for a potential run for office. At the meeting, we asked her how Sullivan could possibly build a broad base of support when there was an extensive record out there of his polarizing views that a challenger could pull up at any time and throw back at him. Or would have been able to.
Were we responsible for the disappearance of bluecollarcorner.com? Don't tell us somebody actually took our advice?!
