Dear Editor,

I was so pleased to see your recent feature on Melvin Tse, the Executive Director of the Greenpoint YMCA. (“On the Record,” March 5) Sharing Mel’s story was a wonderful way to inform your readers about the great work that the Greenpoint YMCA is doing in our community. Over 4,000 young people and over 10,000 adults in our neighborhoods rely on the Greenpoint YMCA for critical programs and services, such as after-school care, drug prevention programs, teen leadership programs, green programs, nutrition counseling, and so much more.

By sharing Mel’s story and the story of the Greenpoint YMCA with your readers, you help people to understand the great benefit we provide to the community, and the positive impact that they can have on the community by supporting Greenpoint YMCA through the Strong Kids Campaign--in which we raise funds to provide financial assistance and no-cost and low-cost programs to youth and families-- or through volunteer service. I hope your readers will be inspired by Mel’s story of community service and think about becoming more involved with the Greenpoint YMCA. We are always looking for volunteers. Volunteer opportunities range from Board service to coaching youth sports. I invite your readers to contact me at (718) 389-3700 ext. 4406.

Sincerely,

Rene Bouchard

Director of Fund Development & Communication
