Bringing over 17 years of coaching experience to Clinton Hill, Matt Rogers was announced as the selection to lead the St. Joseph’s College swimming program.

“Coach Rogers will be a tremendous asset to our swim program,” said Athletics Director James Lally. “His background in the sport of swimming as a competitor and coach, along with his professional experiences in fitness training, are exactly what our program needs to take our competitiveness to new heights.”

As a coach, Rogers has helped swimmers achieve national-level excellence, and coached one swimmer who qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials. He has been invited to attend the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs twice for programs run by the USA Swimming Staff and USA Olympic Training Staff.

Since 2005, he served as an assistant coach at the Long Island Express Swim Club, a competitive swim club ranked in the top 50 in USA Swimming. Rogers was also an assistant swim coach at Chaminade High School from 2001-2012 and the Trigger Aquatics Masters Club from 2003-2009.

As a swimmer, Rogers competed in the U.S. Open and the USA Swimming Grand Prix Series.

“I am excited to be selected to lead the St. Joseph’s College swimming into the future,” said Rogers, who is only the second coach in the program’s 10-year history. “I look forward elevating the program while providing a first-class training experience for our athletes.”

Outside of swimming, Rogers is a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) since 2007, and is the founder of Science Tested Athletic Consulting, specializing in training competitive swimmers and triathletes, as well as high school athletes of many sports.

He is also a Jones Beach lifeguard for 18 years.

Rogers received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Hofstra University in 2007 and a master’s in sport management from Southern New Hampshire University in 2018.

Rogers and the Bears will open the 2018-19 campaign at Mount Saint Mary College on October 13.
