Dear Editor,

In the last several weeks there has been a marked increase in the number of traffic accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians in this city. Both motorists and pedestrians need to observe the traffic laws.

Motorists must remember to stop at red lights, stop signs and drive at required speed limits, while pedestrians must remember to observe the "walk" and "don't walk" signs and avoid jaywalking into oncoming traffic.

Maybe the Police Department should start to give out tickets to pedestrians who jaywalk. Years ago that was done, and it certainly cut down on the number of accidents between motorists and pedestrians.

Sincerely,

John Amato
