You must have noticed that the Metropolitan Transit Authority has been working on our J Train elevated line on Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue. We have been advised that this work is in conjunction with the painting that led to the need for repair and reconstruction of the elevated structure. This I know is an inconvenience, but for rider safety it has to be done.
These extensive repairs in Woodhaven on Jamaica Avenue between Forest Parkway and 85th Street will take place 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays for four weeks. The Woodhaven Business Improvement District will post signs in our bulletin board with updated information.
Please call our office at (718) 805-0202 if you have any complaints. State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo is assisting our office in this regard.
Again this year Councilman Eric Ulrich has funded his successful Graffiti Vandalism Removal Program, being administered through the GWDC Office. This program will try to accommodate off Jamaica Avenue locations and commercial strips throughout his district. This program has really made a difference removing the blight on these properties. Please call (718) 738-1429 now for information.
Great News! Our New York City Councilwoman, Honorable Elizabeth Crowley, has advised that our Forest Park Carousel, the “Jewel of Forest Park,” will begin the process toward being landmarked. This quest for landmarking has been championed by the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation for over 20 years. There will be hearings held for the input from the public. I will advise as to the dates, time and place. A big thank you to Councilwoman Crowley, it’s been a long time in coming.
Also, Congratulations to Honorable Michael “Mike” Miller on his reelection, we look forward to working with him again for the two years to come.
To all of our Jewish friends and neighbors a belated Rosh Hashanah New Year 5772 and a blessed High Holy Days.
All the hard work of the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation staff and board of directors is really gaining speed, for we are again for the 32nd year sponsoring and producing our “Wonderful Woodhaven Street Festival 2012” with great entertainment.
So mark your calendar for Sunday, October 14, from noon to 6 p.m. on Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue, from 80th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard. For more information, call (718) 805-0202. Vendors are welcome.
May God bless our leaders, may God bless our armed forces and coalition forces, may God bless us all, and most of all, may God bless our America.
