Six runners will represent Queens Center for Progress (QCP) in the 2013 ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3, the third year QCP is participating in the Marathon Charity Program.

The QCP team is comprised of Dan Murray, a construction manager from the Boston area; Frank McKenna, eirector at the Seaford Library; Ron Bacskai, owner of RJB Contracting in Pennsylvania, who is also a sponsor at the organization’s annual golf outing; Juana Rosario, a QCP staff member running for the second time; Dale Libkin, an educator and assistant superintendent from the Boston area; and Barney Williams, a Queens resident and attorney.

Second-time marathoner Dan Murray is the son-in-law of Cindy Heller, QCP’s Children’s Center Assistant Director. His wife’s great grandmother volunteered at the school and her mother has been there for 35 years.

“I’ve seen some of the incredible equipment they use to help kids from age three all the way up to teens,” he said. “For me this is a great charity to raise money for and support. I’ve very excited to see the crowds and people in all the different boroughs of New York.”

First-time marathoner Frank McKenna has skydived, did a triathlon and has recently become the father of twin girls. As a library director involved in children’s reading programs, he plans on wearing a Dr. Seuss hat during the marathon as homage to the appropriately themed book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

A friend told him about QCP and presented him with the opportunity to run for the organization. He recently visited the Children’s Center.

“I could not have been more inspired to participate in and complete the marathon,” he said. “Be sure to look for me, I’ll be the guy wearing the Cat In The Hat haberdashery!”

Maspeth business owner Michael Ambrosino of Ambrosino Construction Corp. sponsored the runners’ shirts. QCP will be hosting a pasta dinner and meet and greet on Friday, November 1, where runners will be presented with their official TEAM QCP running shirt.

In just a few weeks, Team QCP has already raised over $12,000. Their anticipated fundraising should reach $17,000 or higher.
