St. John's knocks off Hartford at home

After entering the fourth quarter down 11-9, the St. John's men's lacrosse team scored four unanswered goals over the last 15 minutes of play to knock off Hartford, 13-11, and claim its first victory of the season at DaSilva Memorial Field on Saturday.

The victory on Saturday marks the seventh time the Johnnies have secured a win over the Hawks.

Senior midfielder Mike Madsen led St. John’s (1-2) with his second-consecutive five-goal performance.

Dylan Willis scored the first three goals of his career while Joe Madsen added two goals of his own to carry the Johnnies to their first win in a home opener since the 2015 season.

Patrick Ednie scored in his second consecutive game as he rifled in St. John’s second goal of the game. Jonathan Huber scored in his season debut after missing the first two regular-season contests due to injury.

Ryan Schaeffer added his fifth goal of the season late in the contest to inch the Johnnies closer to its first victory of the 2020 campaign.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brody Agres earned the fifth win of his career, stopping eight shots in the winning effort.

Freshman faceoff specialist Jonathan Dugenio registered his third consecutive game with double-digit faceoff wins, claiming 13 of his 26 attempts from the X. Senior Colin Bosak won his first faceoff of the season in his lone attempt against the Hawks.

Hartford (0-2) was led by juniors Christian Paley and Carter O’Connell, each scoring three goals.

The Red Storm returns to action next weekend to square off with LIU at Bethpage Stadium in Brookville on Saturday, Februry 22, at 1 p.m.
