“Playing in the postseason is something we hold with very high respect in our program,” said St. John’s head coach Joe Tartamella. “This will be St. John’s 11th straight and it never gets any easier. ”
The Red Storm is one of three Big East teams to secure a spot in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament alongside Seton Hall and Georgetown.
The fifth seed in this year’s Big East Tournament, the Johnnies finished above both the Pirates and the Hoyas in the regular season conference standings, placing inside the top half of the league ledger for the sixth-straight year in 2017-18.
2018 marks the Red Storm’s sixth-ever trip to the WNIT and the program’s second in as many seasons.
Last season, St. John’s advanced to round of 16 with victories over Sacred Heart and Harvard on their home court before falling to eventual champion Michigan, 60-40.
