According to witnesses, the 17-year-old victim was in class on the second floor of the school when the suspects drew the teen into the hallway posing as friends. It was there that the suspects attacked the victim, stabbing him once in the back with a steak knife.
Two individuals, both students at Newtown, have been taken into police custody as a result of the incident. The victim was taken to Elmhurst hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery. Names of both the suspects and victim have not been released as they are all minors.
The school was put in immediate lock down after the incident, which occurred just before 11:30 a.m. Students were kept in the school before being sent home around 2 p.m.
Multiple sources said the incident was gang-related. Various students say today’s attack was retaliation for a stabbing early last month outside the high school.
