The mysterious Queens Festival of '86

It's been a couple of weeks since we went digging through our archives, so we decided we would go rooting around again and came up with this mystery photo.

That is obviously former Queens borough president Donald Manes in the center. We've written a lot about Manes here in the past, but if you don't know about the former embattled head of Queens, it's worth looking into. It's a classic case of a politician who took a turn down the wrong path motivated by greed and money, which ultimately ended in his suicide.

As for the other two gentlemen in the photo, we haven't a clue. Maybe someone out there recognizes the two men and can fill us in on some of their personal and/or professional details.

But what really has us intrigued is “Queens Festival '86” that is being promoted in the small poster. Perhaps one of our readers who was alive and well in Queens in 1986 – hey, didn't something else happen that year involving the hometown baseball team? - can fill us in on the festival.

Where did it take place? What was it celebrating? What exactly went on during those two days in June? If you have any information you can share, email us at polposition@queensledger.com.
