Dear Editor,

Regardless of the ideological differences or political loyalties, Americans historically have placed national interests first. Rivals have compromised to serve the general good.

If rivals Speaker Tip O’Neil and President Ronald Reagan found common ground, then good men dedicated to the welfare of the people should be able to do so again.

Trump World is in such controversy that it is truly hard to maintain comprehension. Daily, another Russian revelation consumes the public discourse driving Donald Trump supporters an ironclad belief that there is a witch hunt, fake news fomented by a bias press.

Every new revelation only reinforces what Trump opponents believe is true.

The divisions are tearing us apart from our fellow citizens and is a threat to the future of the nation. There have been conflicts in our national past that have pitted brother against brother. Bloodshed had been spilled as a result.

The enemies of the USA happily watch while considering the end of the American Era.

Slavish devotion to a political party orthodoxy is an Achilles Heel that poses a clear and present danger to America. Absent today is courage by politicians to stand up for what is right, regardless of the potential primary challenges to their reelection.
