Too much testing

Dear Editor,

Every year, elementary students across New York take state tests in math, reading and science, and high school students take Regents exams.

All of this testing generally occurs between May and late June, and causes enormous emotional stress for the students.

It is time for New York State to re-evaluate the validity of the tests. And it should begin by getting input from teachers, principals, superintendents and parents.

Students are tested enough in the classroom by their dedicated and hardworking teachers throughout the school year, they certainly do not need the added burden of these state tests as the school year comes to a close.
