Traffic came to a standstill Tuesday afternoon when a westbound tractor trailer caught fire near the Maurice Avenue exit of the Long Island Expressway, causing chaos and brief delays before order was restored. A Fire Department official at the scene said the truck's fuel tank became disengaged and dragged along the ground, causing sparks to fly that ignited the truck's cab and set it on fire.

Firefighters from several companies worked to put out the blaze, but much of the cab was destroyed. As of press time no injuries were reported in the incident.
