The overall experience was rather satisfactory, the best part is being able to choose where you sit. You sit down, grab a menu and your waitress disappears, not returning for about fifteen minutes to take your drink order.
Yes the service is a bit slow, but if you’re looking for a relaxing meal, it pulls you out of the craziness of the outside world.
The dining room was a bit too warm for comfort. The salad was not fresh, and the dressing was mostly liquid which had settled to the bottom. Granted, when the vegetables were dipped, the dressing was the lovely, familiar orange ginger dressing we have all come to expect form Japanese restaurants.
The sushi comes to the table and the presentation is lovely. The spicy tuna roll looked a bit dull, but the flavor of the tuna was wonderfully complimented with a hint of lingering spice. The chicken tempura roll was large and there was a slight drizzle of sweet sauce. Unfortunately the vegetables overpower the flavor of the chicken, and the roll is also too warm, which causes the chicken to become a bit soggy.
Chicken Katsu, which is a fried chicken dish, is beautiful although may taste better without the dipping sauce.
The panko gives it a great crunch and it is surprisingly not greasy. The dipping sauce is tart and a bit vinegary; it has a tang which is hard to place.
What could be better than some green tea ice cream to end your meal? It is potent, deliciously cooling and leaves a sweet tea flavor in your mouth. Sadly its velvety texture is interrupted by random bits of ice cubes.
All in all it is a nice place for casual dining, and is great for friends and family. But if you are a sushi snob, this is not the place for you.
Three rolls, chicken katsu, and green tea ice cream came out to about $20. Maybe it’s true what they say – you get what you pay for.
