This really doesn't have anything to do with New York politics, and we really mean absolutely nothing. But we found it amusing just the same, and that we would share with you a glimpse of how local politicking is done in other parts of the country.

This Youtube video of Dale Peterson, a candidate for Agriculture Commissioner in Alabama, has received well over a million views, probably because it's so over the top and not because over one million people actually support Dale Peterson. (Are there even one million people in Alabama? We'll have to look into that.)

In the video, Peterson, a Republican, hits on a number of clichés, in fact he hits on just about all of them. He's a former farmer, business man, and Vietnam vet, other politicians are thugs and criminals, illegal immigration is ruining the state, etc. But things get really over the top when Peterson grabs his horse and rifle and looks like he's ready to ride to the state capital and handle things, Wild West style.

Remember when Bill de Blasio took a bunch of flack during his run for public advocate because he airbrushed a handgun necklace his daughter was wearing out of a piece of campaign literature. And that was a tiny fake gun! Could you imagine if had posed with an AK-47 vowing to “hold the mayor accountable if I'm elected to this largely advisory role with very little governmental duties”?
