Esteban Garcia of Woodhaven was crowned National Champion of the 2018 MLB Jr. Home Run Derby in the 12 & Under Division over the weekend at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

Garcia competed in a field of eight national finalists after winning a regional championships. Cade Climie from Sugar Land, Texas, won the 14 & Under Division.

All 16 finalists from both divisions attended various activities during All-Star Week, including the All-Star Futures Game and All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball, and the T-Mobile Home Run Derby.

The MLB Jr. Home Run Derby competition is part of the PLAY BALL initiative, which is baseball’s effort to encourage young people and communities to engage in baseball or softball-related activities, including formal leagues, special events and casual forms of play.
